Court Dismisses Suit Seeking To Stop Ireti Kingibe From ADC Activities

A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking to stop Senator Ireti Kingibe from participating in activities of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following allegations surrounding her suspension by party executives in Abuja.

Justice Peter Lifu ruled that issues relating to party discipline and suspension are internal matters of the ADC and therefore outside the jurisdiction of the court.

The suit was filed by some ADC ward members in Wuse, Abuja, who claimed the senator had been suspended over alleged anti-party activities and misconduct. They asked the court to restrain her from:

  • attending ADC meetings,
  • participating in party activities,
  • and presenting herself as a member of the party.

However, the court dismissed the case, describing it as frivolous and lacking merit. Justice Lifu also imposed financial penalties against the plaintiffs and their lawyer.

The ruling is being viewed by many political observers as a significant development ahead of the 2027 elections, especially as opposition parties continue to experience internal tensions and political realignments.

Nigerians React Online

The judgment sparked reactions across social media, with many Nigerians debating:

  • internal party conflicts,
  • opposition unity,
  • and the growing role of the courts in Nigerian politics.

Some users argued that political parties should resolve disputes internally without dragging every disagreement to court.

Others described the ruling as a victory for democratic participation and freedom within political parties.

The case has also renewed discussions around:

  • defections,
  • opposition restructuring,
  • and political positioning ahead of 2027.

Public Pulse NG Analysis

The ruling may strengthen Ireti Kingibe’s influence within the ADC at a time when opposition politics in Nigeria is becoming increasingly fluid ahead of the next election cycle.

With several political alliances already shifting nationwide, internal party disputes are likely to remain a major issue as 2027 approaches.
